Legacy of the Dead

At 03:47 Zulu, the Russian president's biometrics cease. The countdown begins. There is no abort code.

The Countdown Has Begun

In a dacha outside Moscow, CIA operative Elias Thorne completes his mission and walks out. Clean. Professional. Done.

He has no idea what he just started.

Somewhere in the North Atlantic, five disguised cargo ships come alive. An autonomous nuclear deterrence system — engineered to fire without human authorization the moment the president's heart stopped — is now counting down. The kill switch isn't a code. It's a biometric deactivation sequence that can only be spoken in person, aboard the master node vessel, by the one scientist who built it.

Dr. Elena Voronin has been rotting in Black Dolphin Federal Penitentiary for three years.

Thorne's orders: extract her, get her aboard, stop the launch. Seventy-two hours. But his team has a mole. His British liaison is hunting that mole and won't stop — not for the mission, not for the clock, not even when the evidence points somewhere no one wants to look.

The ships are moving. The window is closing. And the only person who can end this may already be compromised.

About the Author

Laurian Luis has spent his life inside the systems most people only read about.

Born and raised in Northern California, he worked as a mechanic, served as a law enforcement officer, and then spent two decades as a senior systems administrator keeping critical infrastructure running for one of the country's largest banks. He knows how institutions really work, and how they fail.

That's the ground his fiction is built on: technically precise, institutionally honest thrillers where the threat feels real because the machinery behind it is. 0347 ZULU: Legacy of the Dead is his first novel and the opening of the Elias Thorne series. More books are on the way.

He now writes from Alabama.
